April 23, 2004 ---Peabody, MA- The North Shore Technology Council announced today its plan to feature Governor Romney’s Northeast Regional Competitiveness Council (RCC) April 28 at its monthly meeting. Presenting will be Steve Kaufman, RCC co-chair and Chief Executive Officer of Avici Systems, and Zvi Rozen, Director of Industry and Technology for the Massachusetts Department of Economic Development.

“We’re delighted to provide a forum for the Governor’s blue-ribbon panel to share vital economic data they’ve compiled with the business community, and to explore implications for local and state economic policy, as well as infrastructure and human resource investments”, said David Baer, President of North Shore Technology Council.

“After several difficult years in the technology sector, executives are eager to identify new market opportunities”, Baer continued. “Through its research, the RCC has identified several key sectors in which the Northeast is poised for exceptional growth that will create opportunities for both small and large companies.”

Appointed by Governor Mitt Romney in 2003, the Northeast Regional Competitiveness Council (RCC) is one of seven councils created to bring together business representatives, elected officials, civic leaders and educational institutions. Over the past year, the RCC conducted an in-depth analysis of the Northeast region’s economic climate, assessing local abilities to attract new companies, identifying companies and jobs at risk, and devising strategies for maximizing return on human capital, infrastructure and financial investment resources.

The NSTC breakfast forum is held monthly and is open to business and community and education leaders with an interest in technology business.
