CANCELLED: May 14 Enterprise Center Event: Business Breakfast: Robotics in Business
The Enterprise Center has cancelled this event and will reschedule it for sometime this fall.
The world is becoming more and more automated through the creation of robotics. Its an exciting time to learn more about the companies making robots and how they are directly affecting business.
Topics in this workshop will include:
Overview of the Massachusetts robotics ecosystem: companies, research institutions, universities, test facilities, etc.
Multidisciplinary aspects of robotics, aiding all industries
Robotics applications at UMass Lowell: assistive technology; response robotics
Demo of the Inuktun VGTV Extreme response robot
Robot testing at the UMass Lowell NERVE Center
Educational outreach using robotics
8A Centennial Drive
Peabody MA USA
Date and Time
Begins: 05/14/2015 07:00 AM
Ends: 05/14/2015 09:00 AM
Adam Norton, Manager, NERVE
Adam Norton is the Manager of the New England Robotics Validation and Experimentation (NERVE) Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. His research interests include the design of robot control interfaces, evaluation methods for robots and end-users, and using robotics for outreach with students.
At the NERVE Center Adam is responsible for evaluating robot capabilities and developing new test methods for robots and end-users of robots. He has collaborated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the development of standard test methods for response robots and training methods for operator proficiency as part of ASTM E54.08.01, as well as test methods for autonomous industrial vehicles as part of ASTM F45.
As part of a DARPA-funded program, Adam helped conduct a human-robot interaction study of the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) competition, investigating the interaction methods used by competitors to control humanoid robots in performing disaster response tasks. Adam has worked in the Robotics Lab at UMass Lowell since 2006 as the media and graphic designer, and has aided in designing and fabricating robot modifications for some of the lab’s robots. He is also an instructor and core member of the Artbotics program, which combines art, computer science, and robotics to create interactive, kinetic sculptures.
During Fall 2010 he was a SPARK Ambassador at iRobot, where he traveled to 20 schools throughout Massachusetts giving interactive presentations focused on robotics and STEM (science, engineering, technology, and math). He graduated from UMass Lowell in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art and Graphic Design.
$35** for all
**This event is co-sponsored with the Enterprise Center at Salem State University. Please note: ECSSU pricing applies.
