May 3 Sustainability Forum Luncheon Seminar: Energy, Democracy, Gender…

Full Title: Energy, Democracy, Gender and Equity in the Renewable Energy Transition

Speaker: Jennie Stephens, Dean’s Professor of Sustainability Science & Policy at Northeastern University

Advance Registration is appreciated – Walkins are welcomed; $15 for all walkins.

Energy democracy is a novel concept and emergent social movement that connects energy policy and social policy in response to growing concerns about socio-economic and racial inequities, the powerful influence of conventional fossil fuel energy companies on politics and policy, and the negative impacts of climate change. A gender imbalance in the energy sector is apparent in countries throughout the world, yet the societal value of more diverse and inclusive participation in the renewable energy transition is not widely acknowledged. This presentation highlights the opportunities for re-envisioning the renewable energy transition as a larger social transformation that redistributes power – literally and figuratively.
